About

Welcome to Ms. Kat Reading Teacher! I am a California native who loves books. Over the course of my career, I’ve worked in luxury public relations, elder care, and now, my favorite – education. After spending nearly 20 years of my professional life in marketing and communications, I went back to school and shifted careers. With the support of my village, and while parenting my two sons, I earned a secondary English teaching credential, and later, a Master of Arts in Education, Curriculum and Instruction. I currently serve as a reading interventionist in a Los Angeles area elementary school.

I truly love my work, and hope to share some of my literacy knowledge with parents, homeschoolers, and literacy teachers who need support and tools. The main reason I love my job is that I hope to create a spark in students to become lifelong readers. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than ending the day with a good book. It’s also a great escape and stress relief, and a fun way to learn new things. I read nearly every single day, and listen to audiobooks any time I’m alone in the car, or on a walk. I love sharing my love of reading with others, and hope to bring that joy to my students.

When I’m not reading, or thinking about literacy instruction, I’m spending time with my amazing family and friends.

I’m Kathy

Welcome to Ms. Kat Reading Teacher, my little corner of the internet dedicated to all things literacy and literature. I hold an M.A.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction. By day, I’m a reading intervention teacher at a school in the Los Angeles area. By night, I’m a wife, mom to two teenage boys, daughter and friend, and an avid reader. Here’s where I share tips on how to support your beginning or struggling reader, as well as my love for literacy, and my favorite books for both kids and adults. Come read with me!
